Teaching aids are used to make the environment education more interesting and effective. The traditional method of teaching creates less impact on the children. The environment education must be given by using of other tools viz., slide shows, video films, puppet shows, street plays, field trips, essay, posters, exhibition and painting competitions and practical projects that creates more impact on school children and also sustain their interest in teaching. Village level meetings and field demonstrations are effective in understanding the ground level situations. Thus,, teaching aid can be defined as a thing that is used to make subject more comprehensive. The main objectives of teaching aids are as follows:
i) It makes the subject essay, more clear and interesting.
ii) It helps in increasing of concentration of students.
iii) Teaching aids are more effective than oral examples.
iv) It helps in memorizing the subject.
v) It makes teaching more lively, effective and interesting.
Environment education materials include training courses, practical projects, essay competition and audio visual aids.
The well designed training courses should be adopted for creating awareness. Apart from public meetings and organizing seminars, workshops, rallies, training courses, “Pada Yatras”, exhibitions, trees plantations drives, the experience and knowledge gained through implementation of such projects should be disseminated to the villagers by organizing workshops and orientation program that provide better management practices cultivation techniques and other related activity to benefit the overall development of the villages.
Audio-Visual Aids: Audio-visual aids can be categorized into following groups:
a) Audio Aids: Use of radio, tape recorder and other audio aids can make environmental education more effective. Radio broadcasting telecasts various discussions and other program about environment. The students and other people may be encourages to listen to the radio about the programs that can made them aware about the global environment and its future prospects and also what measures, people concerned with the environment are adopting to prevent the holocaust. The teacher can also record important discussion on the tape-recorder and make them available for students to listen and learn.
b) Visual Aids: Visual Aids are even more effective. The educated group can be oriented on environmental protection through newspapers, journals, magazines, radios and booklets etc. Puppet shows, field trips, cartoons, posters exhibition and painting competitions are some of the other visual aids that can be used to educate semi-literate and illiterate peoples and young students. The students must be encouraged to see themselves the actual site devastated by environmental pollution and degradation, this will imprint the long lasting effect on them. For example, they should be taken to the place which has been converted to a desert after cutting of the trees or to the factory site which is polluting air by releasing poisonous smoke and also how to waste effluents released from factory into the river are polluting the river. Maps and charts can also be used to demonstrate the various sites affected by the environmental degradation. Various national and international publications must be shown to orient the children, educated people, individual workers and others for keeping the environmental clean and healthy. Educating people with the help of cartoons is another interesting way to educate people.
c) Audio-Visual Aid: The use of multimedia for giving environment education is very effective method. Audio-visual aids, i.e., cinema, T.V. and documentary films, street plays, folk dances, etc, are useful ways to spread the consciousness environment. Cinema and documentary film on environment.
Human resources are the capabilities of human beings to generate useful products and services. They form the most unique elements of our social and physical milieu. Human resources are very important as they produce other resources like intellectual, social, economic and political resources. Therefore a healthy and capable future generation is the first and the foremost pre-requisite for the development and prosperity of any nation. Humans cannot only generate resources, but they are also instrumental in conserving the existing resources. The latter function is perhaps the exclusive ability of human resource because human can think and act relationally. Human resources can, therefore, maximize natural resource utilization is sustainable manner.
